CS: Legacy - a full-fledged remake of CS 1.6, to be released in 2025

CS: Legacy is a full-fledged remake of Counter-Strike 1.6, created on the official Source Engine SDK from Valve. The game is due to be released on Steam in 2025. The project is being developed by former CSPromod developers and promises to bring back the classic in a modern form. However, its release may face difficulties, in particular from Valve, as well as competition with other similar projects.

Here's What We Know

While Counter-Strike fans were watching ESL Pro League Season 21 matches or playing CS2, the developers of CS: Legacy developers unexpectedly released an official trailer. It states that the game was created from scratch using entirely its own code and game resources. Although the project is powered by the Source engine, its key elements - rendering, shaders, and systems - have been significantly improved.

The trailer demonstrates the familiar features of CS 1.6: original sounds, character physics, and an updated Nuke map. To finance the development, the team launched a Patreon, where they offer bonuses such as access to a closed Discord and a mention in the credits.

Some players doubt whether Valve will allow CS: Legacy will be released on Steam. However, the example of Black Mesa shows that it is possible. At the same time, another similar project - Classic Offensive - has repeatedly faced blocking from Valve, which raises questions about its future.
