Germany purchased over half a million DM51 grenades

Germany has signed a contract for the purchase of 557,400 DM51 universal grenades with DM82 detonators worth €45.4 million. This was reported by Europäischen Sicherheit Technik.
Here's What We Know
Following the approval of the Parliamentary Budget Committee, a framework agreement was signed with Diehl Defence to supply up to 2.45 million grenades by 2031. The first batch is expected to be delivered between 2025 and 2027.
The DM51 grenades have a versatile application: they can be used in offensive and defensive roles. When assembled, the grenade works for defence, providing a fragmentation range of up to 100 metres, and when disassembled, it works as an offensive grenade with a reduced range of up to 25 metres.
In short, since 2022, Germany has transferred 100,000 hand grenades to Ukraine, most of which are likely to be DM51s. Their first use by the Ukrainian military was recorded in May 2022.
In early March of this year, the German parties CDU/CSU and SPD agreed on a multi-billion-dollar defence and infrastructure funding package. It is envisaged that all defence spending exceeding 1% of GDP will be exempt from debt restrictions. In addition, a special infrastructure fund of €500 billion over 10 years will be created, from which the federal states will also benefit.
