Next Metro game will have a darker storyline due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine

4A Games has announced changes to the plot of the next Metro game, which is currently in active development. The developers noted that due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the story will become more gloomy and reflect the realities of the war.

Here's What We Know

In their official statement, the 4A Games team said that they were inspired by their own experience in Ukraine in recent years to create a darker story. "Art has become a life for many of our developers in Ukraine, and we have used this experience to create an even darker story where the themes already present in Metro have become even more apparent and important," the statement reads.

The part of 4A Games that remained in Ukraine is working on a new game in the face of constant rocket attacks and air raids in Ukraine. The developers note that they are "as safe as they can be", but ask fans to be understanding of possible delays in development. "The game will be ready when it's ready, and we can't wait for you to see it."

In 2025, the Metro series celebrates its 15th anniversary. In honour of this, the developers plan to share "events, discounts, and festive content" on their official social media channels throughout the year.

In the meantime, you can watch a themed video on the occasion of the anniversary.
