Ukraine codifies a new drone - the Liut ground system

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has officially codified and approved the Liut ground robotic system for use in the Ukrainian Defence Forces. This drone has already been tested in real combat conditions and used in the Kursk region.

Here's What We Know

The Liut UAV performs a wide range of tasks, including surveillance and fire support for Ukrainian units. It is equipped with a 7.62 mm machine gun and additional equipment that allows it to detect and engage targets at any time of the day or night. The system is compact enough to be transported in the back of a military pickup truck and has a quiet electric motor.

Its batteries provide long battery life, and its high cross-country ability allows it to operate effectively on difficult terrain. The robotic system can withstand a wide range of temperatures and operate in difficult conditions. The main purpose of using such systems is to reinforce the Defence Forces and replace soldiers in the most dangerous areas. The operator controls the drone remotely from a protected position.

In September 2024, the Liut took part in a combat operation near the village of Volfyno in the Kursk region. Soldiers of the UA_REG unit of the Special Operations Forces used it along with FPV drones and mortars, causing the Russian military to suffer losses and retreat. The drone withstood several hits from a hand-held anti-tank grenade launcher, but successfully completed the mission and returned.

It should be noted that the Liut has a front suspension and airless swivel wheels, which increases its cross-country ability. Its hull is protected by Class 4 armour. It is controlled by a remote control, and one operator can simultaneously monitor the movement and the combat module.

The communication range is 2 km in the line of sight, and the target detection range is up to 1200 m. Armed with a 7.62 mm PKT machine gun, the robot can operate autonomously for up to 72 hours, has a range of up to 20 km and can move continuously for up to 3 hours. The total weight of the complex is 330 kg.
