GTA 6 will be an economic boost for the industry, says lead curator for Day of the Devs

The expected release of Grand Theft Auto 6 by Rockstar Games can become a significant economic stimulus for the gaming industry and attract new players to the video game ecosystem. This was stated by Greg Rice, lead curator for Day of the Devs, during the GDC 2025 conference.
Here's What We Know
Rice stressed that GTA 6 will be the "best, biggest game of the year" and will undoubtedly sell millions of copies. He noted that although some developers fear competition with such a big release, the industry is mature enough to provide space for both large-scale and independent projects. According to him, the release of GTA 6 will "bring a big economic boost to the gaming industry" and "help bring a lot of people back into the ecosystem".
Rice believes that while some players will focus exclusively on GTA 6, many will take the opportunity to check out other projects, especially indie games. He emphasised that the success of a big title can stimulate interest in various genres, which, in turn, will contribute to the development of the indie segment.
GTA 6 is expected to release this autumn on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
