Analyst confirms that the new A20 chip for iPhone 18 will be even faster and more efficient

Apple's supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the iPhone 18 will be equipped with an A20 chip manufactured by TSMC using a 2-nm process.

Here's What We Know

According to him, the test production of chips has shown high efficiency, and the share of suitable chips has already exceeded 60-70%. This indicates the successful implementation of TSMC's new technology.

Earlier, Kuo said that the A20 would be 2-nm, and this week analyst Jeff Pu confirmed this information. Earlier, there were rumours that A20 would remain 3nm, but they were denied.

The transition to the 2-nm process will increase the number of transistors in each chip, which will have a positive impact on performance and energy efficiency. The A20 is projected to be 15% faster and 30% more energy efficient than the A19 that will power the iPhone 17.

Apple is expected to stick to the following processor upgrade schedule:

• A17 Pro - 3nm (N3B)
• A18 / A18 Pro - 3nm (N3E)
• A19 / A19 Pro - 3nm (N3P)
• A20 / A20 Pro - 2-nm (N2)

It is worth noting that these dimensions in nanometres are TSMC marketing terms, not actual measurements. The iPhone 18 is expected to be released in a year and a half.

Recently, users in the United States sued Apple over the delay in Siri features in the iPhone 16. The lawsuit was filed in a court in San Jose, California, and accuses the company of misleading consumers by advertising Siri features that were not available at the time of release.
