A few months ago, Valve announced that it was willing to give third-party companies access to its SteamOS operating system to build portable consoles based on it. The software has proven itself in Steam Deck and is significantly less stressful than Windows, making it ideal for such gadgets.

So far, only Lenovo has taken advantage of Valve's offer by releasing Legion Go S, but another IT-market giant may join this trend.

Here's What We Know

One of the largest PC manufacturers, HP is considering releasing its own gaming console.

At the HP Amplify event, the company's senior vice president Josephine Tan explained that the main reason why the brand hasn't released its own console so far is a reluctance to work with Windows, as HP believes that the OS is too resource-intensive for handheld consoles. It cites the Nintendo Switch as an example, which runs perfectly well on its own software.

At the moment HP is studying the issue of using SteamOS and if the company does decide to release a portable gaming gadget under the OMEN brand, co-operation with Valve seems to be the most likely scenario.
