Apple has confirmed that the iPhone 16 series will be officially available in Indonesia from 11 April 2025. The iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, and the budget iPhone 16e will be available.

Here's What We Know

This is the final stage of a several-month ban on iPhone 16 sales in the country.

The ban was imposed in October 2024 due to Apple's failure to meet Indonesia's requirements for investment in local operations, including sourcing 40% of local components in accordance with the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) certification. These requirements require foreign companies to either manufacture products locally, develop software, or establish research and education centres in the country.

According to Reuters, Apple has agreed to an investment commitment of $300 million, which is lower than the previously discussed amount of $1 billion. It is not yet clear whether this amount is finalised or a temporary figure that could increase in the future.

Despite the negotiations, Apple will not be obliged to produce the iPhone 16 series in Indonesia. Instead, the company plans to set up a factory to assemble AirTag trackers and accessories, as well as invest in additional research centres and local academies to support students in Indonesia. This option met the requirements of the Indonesian government, allowing Apple to resume iPhone sales in the country.

Recently, it was reported by insiders that Apple may add 8K video recording to the iPhone 17 series.
