Crystal Dynamics lays off 17 employees as it works on new Tomb Raider
Crystal Dynamics, the developer of the Tomb Raider series, has announced the dismissal of 17 employees. According to the company, this decision was made to "better align the business needs and future success of the studio".
Here's What We Know
The layoffs affected the animation, programming, and art design teams. Crystal Dynamics assures that this will not affect their current projects, including the new Tomb Raider game, which is being developed on Unreal Engine 5 in collaboration with Amazon Games.
The studio is also helping to create the Perfect Dark reboot for Xbox, which is being developed by The Initiative. In 2023, Embracer Group, the parent company of Crystal Dynamics, launched a large-scale restructuring that has already led to the closure of Volition studio and layoffs at Gearbox.
So far, Crystal Dynamics assures that their key projects are on track, but the wave of layoffs in the gaming industry continues.
