WhatsApp can now be selected as the default call and message app on iPhone
WhatsApp can now be selected as the standard application for calls and messages on the iPhone if users so desire. It is reported by WABetaInfo.
Here's What We Know
In the new version of WhatsApp, available in the App Store (v25.8.74), the application appeared in the list of possible applications for standard calls and messages in iOS settings: Settings, Apps, Standard Apps.
Apple introduced the ability to select standard iPhone apps in iOS 18.2. Initially, the company announced that this feature would be available only in the European Union. Later it turned out that it is available worldwide.
If you choose WhatsApp for messages and calls, your iPhone will automatically open this app when you want to send a message or make a call, instead of the standard Apple apps Messages and Phone/FaceTime.
How To Switch It On
To set up WhatsApp as a standard app, just go to Settings and select it as the app for calls and messages. For example, in the Contacts app, when you press the button to call or message someone, iOS will immediately open WhatsApp.
In January, WhatsApp fixed a bug for iOS that compromised the privacy of the "View Once" feature.
