Ukraine tests FPV drones that can detect EW
The Ukrainian military is testing FPV drones capable of detecting radiation from enemy electronic warfare systems, which could be a breakthrough in the combat use of drones.
Here's What We Know
Tests of an FPV drone with an integrated signal receiver have been published online. The system detects radiation sources in 12 frequency bands, estimates the distance to them by signal strength, and antennas determine the direction to the emitter.
All the information received is transmitted to the operator via the flight controller, which allows detecting trench-based electronic warfare systems that block the operation of FPV drones. A drone equipped with this technology retains the ability to carry a payload, which makes it possible to attack an enemy installation as soon as it is detected.
Additionally, such drones can be combined with fibre-optic communication systems that make them invulnerable to electronic interference. This can allow them to "punch" corridors in enemy defences and ensure the effective use of other FPV drones.
Russian telegram channels that published footage of the tests claim that similar drones have already appeared at the front in recent months.
