The BMW M2 Dakar concept is too good to be an April Fool's joke
BMW has released images of an off-road version of the M2 coupé in the style of racing cars for the Dakar Rally. The concept would have the right to life but, unfortunately, it turned out to be just an April Fool's prank.
Here's What We Know
The Bavarian carmaker posted a series of images on Instagram of a lifted M2 coupe with off-road tyres and reduced entry and exit angles. The front and rear fenders got huge vents to cool the brakes in the hot desert. The car is also equipped with reinforced protection for the 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine with an output of 480 hp.

As befits a true off-roader, especially one named after one of the world's toughest rally-raids, the M2 Dakar has been given a roof rack with a spare wheel and a fuel canister for emergencies.
Ten years ago we would have laughed at the absurdity of a car like the M2 Dakar, but after real production models like the Porsche 911 Dakar appeared, many might have mistaken BMW's Instagram post for a real novelty. But unfortunately, that's almost certainly not the case.
