Peugeot has increased the range of the electric E-208 to 433 kilometres
The Peugeot E-208 electric hatchback has a range of 433 kilometres (WLTP combined cycle) after the update, which is 23 kilometres more than the pre-reform version. The French carmaker claims that this is the best indicator in the entire European B-class.
Here's What We Know
The above range figure applies to the E-208 with a 156 hp (115 kW) engine. It should be clarified at this point that the E-208 also has a version with a 136 hp (100 kW) engine that can travel up to 363 kilometres from charge to charge in a similar test cycle.
Peugeot has not revealed the secret behind the success of the more powerful version of its compact hatchback. Prior to this announcement, the 156bhp E-208 was fitted with a 51kWh battery, while the 136bhp version was fitted with a 50kWh unit.
The innovations do not end with the increase in range alone. The model has received a Trip Planner, which, in conjunction with the navigation system (available as an optional extra), builds routes to maximise the car's range and facilitate recharging. The system takes into account:
- The distance to be travelled
- The battery level at the start of the journey
- The desired charge level on arrival
- Available charging stations near your destination
- Power consumption based on speed, traffic, road type and terrain
Also new is the 'limit charge to 80%' function available for alternating current (AC) charging. This can be used to extend battery life when the car is not required to travel the maximum possible distance without recharging.
In addition, the Peugeot E-208 now supports the V2L (Vehicle to Load) function. This means that the hatchback's high-voltage battery can be used to power external electrical devices. For example, charging an electric bicycle or using mobile lighting. The bi-directional adapter delivers up to 16A via the charging port, providing up to 3.5kW of power. The adapter is available as an accessory at Peugeot dealerships.
All new Peugeot 208 models (including pure petrol and hybrid models) have received:
- A new multifunctional camera with extended view for the automatic emergency braking system for the detection of cyclists and pedestrians
- Okenite White has been added to the palette instead of Ice White.
Speaking of hybrid Peugeot 208 - there is a new classification for them. The former Hybrid 100bhp and Hybrid 136bhp versions become Hybrid 110bhp and Hybrid 145bhp, "to reflect the total combined power of the petrol engine and electric motor". Peugeot is thus anticipating the requirements of the Euro 7 standard.
