South America will get its own VW Amarok
Volkswagen has published a design sketch of the next-generation Amarok pick-up truck in a version for South America. It will be a separate model from the second-generation VW Amarok, which is already produced in South Africa and is based on the Ford Ranger platform.
Here's What We Know
On the teaser we observe a pickup truck with a relief body design, which is especially noticeable on the bonnet and wheel arches. "American" Amarok will receive thin daytime running lights on the upper level and a luminous strip across the entire width of the front body. The main headlights will be located under this stripe.
The new model will be produced at the Pacheco plant in Argentina from 2027 and sold in South America. The existing Amarok on the Ford Ranger platform will continue to be produced in South Africa.
Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, said the high localisation rate of the new Amarok means that the model "will be perfectly tailored to the specific needs of [VW] customers in this market".

Note that a restyled version of the first-generation VW Amarok (pictured above) is still being produced in Argentina right now. The pickup is available with diesel 2.0-litre turbo engines rated at 140 hp and 180 hp, as well as a 3.0-litre V6 engine rated at 258 hp. All units except the weakest are available with 4x4 all-wheel drive. A choice of 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic is offered.
