At Osaka Kansai Expo 2025, Kawasaki unveiled an innovative cross-country robot.

Here's What We Know

Corleo is Kawasaki's conceptualisation of a four-legged robot that combines elements of motorbike engineering, robotics and artificial intelligence. The project is positioned as a revolutionary means of personal mobility of the future and so far it looks to be just that.

Corleo's concept is reminiscent of a horse: the robot is equipped with flexible suspensions that allow it to move over rough terrain, including mountains and snow-covered areas. Corleo is capable of jumping, climbing and overcoming obstacles, making it a versatile vehicle. "The hooves are covered with a special non-slip material that absorbs uneven ground surfaces.

The robotic horse is powered by an eco-friendly hydrogen engine that generates energy to drive the legs, while AI analyses the environment, provides balance and stability, and helps the user steer the robot by shifting weight in the saddle.

"The horse has a dashboard that displays hydrogen levels, route, centre of gravity position and other information. At night, it maintains an optimal ride by projecting markers onto the road surface to indicate the path ahead.

For now, it's a concept that demonstrates Kawasaki's vision for a future of transport focused on sustainability and innovation. Of course, you can't expect to buy a Kawasaki Corleo just yet, although the "horse" has probably piqued the interest of many. The Japanese company states that such transport may appear on sale not earlier than 2050.

From the author: it seems that engineers and designers of Kawasaki are fans of the video game Horizon Zero Dawn, the protagonist of which travelled on such robots.
