Chinese hybrid and electric car manufacturer BYD has officially made its debut in the Swiss market, opening its first branded shop in the centre of Zurich.

Here's What We Know

BYD held its official brand launch in Switzerland on 1-2 April, introducing three models for the local market at once:

  • Seal electric sedan
  • Sealion 7 electric SUV
  • Seal U DM-i Hybrid SUV

The company opened its first Swiss shop in collaboration with dealer Harmony. It is also preparing to open showrooms in Lugano and Bellinzona in collaboration with Automotive Suisse - they will start operating in April, but will officially open in the third quarter of the year.

BYD plans to have 15 outlets across Switzerland by the end of 2025.

The BYD Seal is available in two configurations with an 82.5 kWh battery and a WLTP range of up to 570 kilometres. The Sealion 7 is available with two powertrain types in three configurations, with a range of up to 502 kilometres. Seal U DM-i is available in three configurations with a total range of over 1,100 km (on a full charge and a full tank of petrol).

Recall that BYD completely ceased production of internal combustion engine vehicles in March 2022, focusing on hybrids and electric cars. In March 2025, the company sold 377,420 electrified cars (+24.78% year-on-year), of which a record 72,723 cars were sold overseas (+89.22%).
