The US President is planning to hold a large-scale military parade in Washington on the occasion of his 79th birthday. The event is scheduled for 14 June and is intended to be not only a personal celebration, but also part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the US Army.

Here's What We Know

The parade will pass through the centre of the capital - from the Pentagon in Arlington to the White House. The route is expected to be about 7 kilometres long. A large number of military personnel, vehicles and armoured units will take part.

The army's engineering units are already preparing for the event by laying out the route, including for heavy equipment. Meanwhile, Washington city authorities are preparing for organisational and logistical challenges. One of the main concerns is the potential damage to the road surface, which could lead to millions in repair costs.

A similar parade in the capital was already planned during Donald Trump's previous term in 2018. At that time, the project was not implemented due to its high cost - the preliminary estimate was $92 million, which caused widespread criticism.

Now, the idea of the parade is once again causing debate. In particular, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, despite his support for Trump, has issued a warning, saying that such a show of force is reminiscent of the Soviet style.
