Honda CR-V Dream Pod turns out to be a capsule hotel on wheels
Honda Europe has unveiled the CR-V "Dream Pod" concept. It is a crossover equipped with a camping kit, which is installed right in the boot and turns the car into an analogue of a Japanese capsule hotel for two.
Here's What We Know
The Dream Pod is based on the EGOE Nestboard 650 camping kit, which "fits perfectly in the CR-V's 617-litre boot". When the rear seats are folded down, the twin mattress can be quickly and easily unfolded to create a cosy sleeping space for two adults. Hidden in the base of the EGOE is a pull-out drawer with a cooking hob, folding sink and storage space for crockery, cutlery and plates.
The interior of the concept features additional personalised amenities, including 'tech compartments' with LED reading lights and retractable side tables, as well as USB charging sockets. Blackout curtains for the rear windows, combined with a retractable curtain behind the front seats, are fitted for privacy.
A Honda-certified Thule bike carrier can be attached to the rear of the CR-V. The detachable towbar can also be used to tow a trailer weighing up to 1,500kg. At the same time, the original rubber mats help keep the interior clean when returning from camping trips.
"Dream Pod" was created to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Honda CR-V. The demonstrator for the concept was the production Honda CR-V e:PHEV c 2.0-litre engine, a 17.7 kWh battery pack and an electric motor. The plug-in hybrid unit provides an electric range of up to 79 kilometres (49 miles).
