It's official: HBO has renewed The Last of Us for a third season before the second season is even released
On 13 April on the streaming service MAX will premiere the second season of the hit series The Last of Us, based on the cult video game by Sony and Naughty Dog studio.
The authors have long stated that all the events of the second part of The Last of Us (2020) will not fit into one season and it has just become known that the series has been extended.
Here's What We Know
Even before the premiere of the second season, HBO confirmed that the third season is in pre-production.
Critics recently published their reviews noting that the second season turned out to be a great but somewhat cliffhanger, which is a flaw that the showrunners will fix in the future. The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin explained that if the film crew tried to show all the events of the second part of the game, the audience would have to wait for the series for several more years.
We approached the second season with the goal of creating something we could be proud of. The end results surpassed even our most ambitious goals, thanks to our ongoing partnership with HBO and the sterling work of an unrivalled cast and crew. We look forward to continuing the story in season three.
The creators of the series promise that the third season will be "no less exciting and extraordinary".
Recall, the second season of The Last of Us will consist of seven episodes, some of which are comparable in timing to feature-length films.
