About 50 M1126 Stryker armoured vehicles have been redeployed to Texas to reinforce troops on the southern border of the United States. The footage of the vehicles being loaded was released by the Department of Defence Visual Information Dissemination Service (DVIDS)

Here's What We Know

The armoured personnel carriers have already arrived at Fort Bliss to support the 12th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 2nd Brigade Combat Team Stryker, 4th Infantry Division.

In addition to the Strykers, the rail platforms also transported JLTV tactical armoured vehicles and other equipment, including logistics. The redeployment is in accordance with the order of the US Northern Command and is aimed at supporting the Joint Task Force (JTF-SB), which operates on the southern border to counter illegal border crossings.

The deployment of Stryker Brigade units began back in March following a corresponding order from the US President. They were joined by intelligence, engineering and communications units. Earlier, in January, 500 marines were deployed to support the Border Guard Service using V-22 Osprey convertible aircraft. In total, the Pentagon officially planned to deploy up to 1,500 troops.

However, the official reason for strengthening the border may hide a larger goal. According to NBC News, Donald Trump's administration is considering drone strikes against drug cartels in Mexico as part of a new anti-drug strategy. These plans include both aerial reconnaissance and potential targeted strikes.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has confirmed that the US conducts reconnaissance flights over her country's territory - as agreed between the two countries.
