Get your boarding hooks and muskets ready, captains! Ubisoft has revealed ambitious plans for the second year of support for its pirate online action game Skull and Bones, and there are a lot of updates to come. Among the most anticipated new features are brand new modes, ships, a meeting with the legendary Kraken, and something that fans have been begging for since the release: land battles.

Here's What We Know

Ubisoft has shared its plans for future updates. Although there is a lot of interesting stuff waiting for us throughout 2025, it is the third season called Guts and Glory, which will start this autumn, that will finally give players the opportunity to go ashore and take part in sword and firearm battles.

This will be part of the Rogue Warlord expansion, which will allow players to land on sandy beaches and explore caves to rescue valuable crew members known as Officers. The short video teaser only showed a snippet of what's to come, so we'll have to wait until the end of the year to see exactly how this new mechanic will work.

Although land battles are undoubtedly the biggest innovation of the second year of Skull and Bones, the presentation contained many other interesting things that will keep players entertained throughout 2025. The first season, titled Ascent into Chaos, launched on 15 April and adds a loot upgrade system, more challenging world levels, a new medium-sized ship - the schooner, and the Death Tides team PvP mode.

The second season of Oaths of War, which will be released in the summer of 2025, will feature mega-forts and huge frigates, and the fourth season of Eye of the Beast, scheduled for winter, will introduce the Kraken, the Hunter's Guild, and a large ship - the corvette.

If all of this sounds tempting enough to plunge into the world of Skull and Bones, you'll be pleased to know that a free weekend is coming up in a few days. From 17 to 21 April, players will be able to raise their sails to try out pirate PvP battles and purchase the game at a reduced price.

As a reminder, Skull and Bones was released on 16 February 2024 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
