Head of 11 bit studios Przemysław Marszał talked to Eurogamer journalists and told about the reasons for the cancellation of Project 8 game, which was announced in December 2024.

Here's What We Know

Marszał said that the game was developed under the inspiration of A Plague Tale series. Project 8 was also planned as a third-person action game, the main theme of which would be the acceptance of grief from the loss of a loved one. The events of the game were set in a colourful fantasy world, and the gameplay would be based not so much on battles with enemies as on stealth and ranged attacks. For this purpose, like Amicia from A Plague Tale, the protagonist of the Polish game was planned to have several ranged weapons.

To illustrate his words, the head of 11 bit studios presented two screenshots of Project 8:

The development of the game started in 2018, right after the successful releases of This War of Mine and Frostpunk. Back then, 11 bit, as Przemyslaw Marshall noted, "had an optimistic view of the future," so creating another game seemed logical. But time passed, budgets increased, and analyses of similar games in the Hellblade and A Plague Tale series showed that such projects, although receiving high ratings, were not popular enough. Besides, Frostpunk 2 development took a lot of resources, and Project 8 was decided to be sacrificed in favour of more promising projects.

Przemysław Marszal is optimistic about the future of 11 bit studios, is confident in the successful release of The Alters in June 2025 and has high hopes for the growing attention to Frostpunk 2.
