Free eFootball will receive a major update with crossplay, AI matches, and other important innovations
Fans of virtual football, Konami is preparing a major update to eFootball. On 17 April, the game will receive a number of long-awaited modes and features that will unite players across platforms and make the game more accessible to newcomers.
Here's What We Know
One of the key innovations will be full-fledged crossplay. Players on Xbox, PlayStation and PC will now be able to team up with friends for co-operative and friendly matches, as well as meet opponents from other platforms in the Events mode and the main eFootball League. In addition, ranked events and the eFootball League will have a common leaderboard for all platforms, instead of separate rankings for each of them.
Another important change will be the ability to play against AI opponents in eFootball League, which was previously available only in online matches. The game's general producer explained that the addition of AI should make eFootball more attractive to players who are not confident in their abilities for online competitions.
Among other changes that version 4.4.0 will bring:
- Addition of the Smart Assist feature in eFootball League mode for beginners.
- Expansion of slots for reserve players, which will allow GPs to purchase an additional 500 seats to the current maximum of 900.
- The ability to simultaneously terminate a contract with several players in the menu after the draw.
- A new skill training programme that increases the chances of a player acquiring a specific skill.
- The ability to remove specific added skills.
As a reminder, the first version of eFootball, released in September 2021, received massive criticism. The football simulator, criticised for its poor gameplay and comical graphics, was named the worst game of 2021 by Metacritic. However, since then, the free-to-play game has received numerous updates and improvements, and in April 2024, Konami announced that it had passed the 750 million download mark.
