Fans of the icy post-apocalypse can prepare for new challenges. The developer of the popular Frostpunk strategy game, 11 bit Studios, has officially announced the start of work on the "next project in the Frostpunk universe", which is scheduled for release in 2027.

Here's What We Know

Information about the new game was first revealed in a conversation with 11 bit Studios CEO Przemysław Marszał with Eurogamer, where he shared the history of the studio and plans for the future. Now the company has confirmed the development in its latest financial report.

With two Frostpunk titles in the pipeline and a mixed reaction from the community to the latest instalment - Frostpunk 2 currently has "mixed" reviews on Steam - Marszał was asked if the universe has run its course and whether it has a future.

"We fully believe in Frostpunk. We believe in this IP. I don't want to spoil it, but I can tell you that you're going to hear something in about two weeks, so it's really coming soon. We absolutely believe in the IP and we'll definitely be working on it further," Marshall replied.

He added: "As for Frostpunk 2, we're working very hard right now. A patch is being prepared, DLC is being prepared, etc. We see the problems with the game, we know the strengths of the game, and we are working on it. But that's not all. Frostpunk is definitely one of our key IPs, key games, and we love this IP, so yes, we will continue to work on it."

Interestingly, while we're still waiting for a more concrete release date for the console versions of Frostpunk 2, other than "summer 2025", it's unlikely that the upcoming announcement will be about them - not least because Marshall specifically mentioned during the conversation that "the console version is coming very soon".

But this new game in the Frostpunk universe is not the only new project the Polish studio is currently working on.

"We started working on two other things," Marshal said. "One is related to Frostpunk, and the other is something new. We absolutely believe that we have to do new things."

The head of 11 bit studios also spoke about Project 8 and the reasons for the cancellation of this game.
