The winners of the 2025 World Car Awards have been announced

The 2025 World Car Awards were presented at the New York Auto Show. The ceremony really justified its international status. So much so that most of the winners are not even represented in the US market.

Here's What We Know

The top title,World Car of the Year, went to the Kia EV3, which beat out the BMW X3 and Hyundai Inster in the final round. This is Kia's second consecutive win. Last year, the EV9 was named the best car.

In the U.S. EV3 is not sold yet, but should appear, if not prevented by duties.

Electric cars in general dominated this year. The Volvo EX90 was the World Luxury Car of the Year, beating out the Porsche Macan and Porsche Panamera.

The Hyundai Inster / Casper Electric won the "World Electric Vehicle" category. It is a compact urban crossover with 115 hp, aimed primarily at Asian markets.

The "World Urban Car" title went to the BYD Seagull / Dolphin Mini, a hatchback that costs less than $10,000 in China. The Seagull Intelligent Driving Edition has a range of up to 405 kilometres.

The World Car Design of the Year category was won by the Volkswagen ID. Buzz. The electric minivan, although it has been presented for several years, beat the Kia EV3 and Toyota Land Cruiser / Land Cruiser 250.

The only non-electric car among the winners was the Porsche 911 GTS, taking home the World Performance Car award.
