WhatsApp is testing a new feature for translating messages and channel updates, which is now available to some Android users participating in the beta programme.

Here's What We Know

According to WABetaInfo, the feature was introduced in version 2.25.12.25 of the application, and is expected to be rolled out to a wider range of beta testers in the near future.

The innovation allows you to translate messages from Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, Hindi and Russian. The translation can be done without an internet connection - you need to download a language pack. You can also install a special package that automatically recognises the language of the incoming message and performs the translation.

You can enable the function in the chat information - separately for each private or group dialogue. There are two options available: automatic translation or manual translation via the message menu and the Translate option.

Since the translation is performed directly on the phone and not through online servers, its accuracy may be lower than that of services such as Google Translate. At the same time, users will be able to send feedback without transmitting the text to Meta, which preserves confidentiality.

Recently, it was reported that WhatsApp is working on a new option that will allow users to control who can export their chats and automatically save the sent media. The WhatsApp beta for iOS has a toggle that allows you to block the export of chat history by individual contacts or in groups.
