Tesla is delaying the launch of a simplified version of the Model Y, Reuters reported, citing three unnamed sources familiar with the company's plans.

Here's What We Know

We are talking about a compact and affordable model, unofficially known by different names - Model A, Model 2, Model Q, and internally labelled as E41. It is supposed to be a simplified and cheaper version of the Model Y, built on an already paid off platform.

However, according to Reuters, the launch of this model has been delayed again. Earlier the company promised to bring it to the market in the first half of 2025, but now the timeline is pushed back to late 2025 or early 2026. Such postponements have already become usual for the company: Tesla often announces new products long before their actual readiness, and then repeatedly postpones the release date.

It's worth noting that even the new concept of a stripped-down version of an existing model is a departure from the original plan to release an all-new Tesla model for $25,000. CEO Elon Musk has abandoned the idea in favour of the robotaxi project, which is formally scheduled to launch in 2026 but has yet to show any noticeable progress in development.

According to Reuters' sources, Tesla is instead considering launching two stripped-down models: a simplified Model Y and a bare-bones version of the Model 3.
