Nintendo president hints that new Mario platformer will definitely be coming to Switch 2: "Stay tuned"
Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser hints to players who are eagerly awaiting the new Mario game on Nintendo Switch 2 that their expectations will definitely come true.
Here's What We Know
Many people were hoping to see a new 3D Mario game announced during the Nintendo Switch 2 launch earlier this month, given that the last instalment in the series, Super Mario Odyssey, was released eight years ago. Instead, Nintendo unveiled Donkey Kong Bananza, a 3D platformer starring Donkey Kong that appears to use a similar engine to Super Mario Odyssey, although the development team remains a mystery.
In an interview with CNN, Bowser was asked about the lack of confirmation of a major 3D (or 2D) Mario game for Switch 2. In response, the president of Nintendo of America hinted that fans just need to be patient.
"Stay with us," he said. "You know, we have a long, long catalogue and a long list of [intellectual property] that I'm sure will be coming to this platform."
Some players are worried that if Donkey Kong Bananza is the result of the work of the Super Mario Odyssey core team, then we will have to wait several more years for a new 3D Mario game from the same team. However, Nintendo is again keeping silent about who exactly is developing the Donkey Kong game. Recently, the company often refuses to comment publicly on which team is behind a particular project.
When asked by VGC about the game's developer at the Switch 2 press conference last week, a Nintendo representative replied: "Please wait until the game is released and watch the credits." Similarly, when asked by IGN about the team working on Bananza, Nintendo of America's Vice President of Product and Gaming Experience Bill Trinen said: "That's a very good question. You'll have to wait. We always start with a demo of the game and focus people's attention on the gameplay, but we'll definitely share more information about the developer in due course."
However, Nintendo players won't be completely without Mario on launch day, as Switch 2 will be accompanied by Mario Kart World, the first brand new Mario Kart game, which will be released on 5 June to coincide with the new console's launch.
