Even before the official start of the alpha testing of the shooter Marathon, which began today, 23 April, some lucky people got early access to the game. And not only did they play, but they even managed to show the gameplay to the general public. However, the watchful eye of Bungie quickly noticed the broadcasts and promptly shut down the servers.

Here's What We Know

Cozmo's community manager confirmed on social media that some players received early access, but the studio did not allow them to continue playing.

The official launch of the closed alpha test of Marathon will start on 23 April.

Initially, Bungie planned to prohibit alpha test participants from restricting their gameplay, but later cancelled the non-disclosure agreement. The main goal of the alpha test is to check the technical capabilities of Marathon and the key game cycle.

It is important to understand that the alpha version of Marathon is only a cut of the full game. It does not include the final visuals and animations, as well as all characters, locations, weapons, items, factions, and upgrades. In addition, the alpha test lacks the ranked mode, the final gameplay balance, and some progression systems.

If you were not lucky enough to receive an invitation to the current Marathon alpha test, don't be upset. You can visit the game's official Discord and register to participate in future testing stages.

Marathon is scheduled to release on 23 September for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game will support both cross-play and cross-save and will be paid, with an estimated price of $40. So, although some lucky people got early access, the majority of players will be able to appreciate Bungie's ambitious project in autumn.
