Toyota has unveiled at the Auto Shanghai 2025 motor show a new flagship electric car, the bZ7, developed in partnership with China's GAC. This car is targeting the large electric sedan segment and is set to enter the Chinese market in 2026.

Here's What We Know

The company emphasises that the model combines "Toyota's reliability and manufacturing quality" with "advanced Chinese technology". The car has a streamlined body with a smoothly descending roof line, which gives the silhouette a sporty look, but does not turn the sedan into a liftback. The profile and glazing are reminiscent of the Toyota Crown crossover, but the bZ7 features sharper lines, original LED optics and neatly detailed surfaces.

The model is over 5 metres long, putting it on par with models such as the Tesla Model S, Mercedes EQE and BMW i5. Toyota calls the bZ7 the flagship of its electric car range in the Chinese market, emphasising the brand's high ambitions in this segment.

The interior is in a technological vein. The centrepiece is a large display of the multimedia system running Huawei's Harmony OS. The front panel has a minimalistic design, while decorative wood inlays and atmospheric lighting create a calm and premium atmosphere. The centre console is equipped with wireless charging pads and retains a number of traditional physical control keys.

Toyota promises to equip the sedan with "state-of-the-art smart technologies," but has yet to reveal details. Given the specifics of the model and its focus on the Chinese market, exports outside the country are still unlikely. However, one should not completely rule out such a scenario either.
