Fans of Nine Sols, one of the best Metroidvania titles of recent years, which has conquered with its unique "taopunk" setting that skilfully combines science fiction with futuristic Asian fantasy, have received an unexpected gift. Developers from Red Candle Games in cooperation with the manga platform MOJOIN have released an official prequel manga, which is already available for reading in several languages.

Here's What We Know

This story, visualised by the talented artist Yang Chi-Cheng, contains many plot elements that were developed in parallel with the game but for various reasons did not make it to the final version.

"While working on Nine Sols, our team had a lot of ideas for Lear's story, but due to time constraints and other factors, we couldn't include everything," reads the official announcement of the unexpected manga prequel The Way of Lear: Prelude.

"However, a year ago, by chance, we established a partnership with MOJOIN and were lucky enough to meet a wonderful artist, Mr Yang Chi-Cheng," the developers continue. "As a result, what was once an extravagant idea for us has gradually become a reality thanks to the joint efforts of everyone involved, especially Mr Yang's invaluable contribution. This has allowed us to further expand the story of Lear and the world of Penlai."

The story of the manga will take readers to the very origins of the mythical Nine Sols saga, which takes place 500 years before the events of the game.

"A long time ago, long before the events of Nine Sols, two Sols changed the course of Penlai's history forever," the official description reads, "One is a visionary Fanshi. The other is the king of kings. Bound by fate, torn by faith - their incredible connection will turn into a clash of fates. Uncover the hidden past. Witness the origin of the Nine Suns saga!

You can enjoy the manga now in English, Chinese, and Japanese on the MOJOIN platform.
