Ubisoft is coming to the players' aid: The Crew 2 will get a hybrid mode with the prospect of full offline
After the high-profile scandal of the original The Crew server outage, Ubisoft Ivory Tower has finally shared details about the upcoming offline mode for The Crew 2. The developers said that they would first launch a "hybrid" mode that would allow them to thoroughly test and improve the offline mode before the full launch scheduled for the end of this year.
Here's What We Know
Last year, Ubisoft caused a flurry of criticism among fans of The Crew 2014 when it shut down the game's servers without warning, making it completely unplayable. Despite legal action by players, the original The Crew remains unavailable. However, Ubisoft is actively working on the introduction of offline modes for other games in the series - The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest, which it has revealed in a recent video.
The video focuses on The Crew 2, as this game will be the first to receive the offline mode. Before that, a "hybrid" mode will be launched, which will allow players to freely switch between online and offline play. Producer Gregory Korzy explained that this approach, combined with testing among Insider Programme members, will allow Ubisoft Ivory Tower to "refine and balance the content" before the full offline mode is released to the public in late 2025.
Regarding The Crew Motorfest, Korzy made it clear that the priority is to establish an offline mode in The Crew 2.
The testing of hybrid and offline modes for The Crew 2 will start on PC and will later be available on PS4 and Xbox One. So, it seems that Ubisoft has heard its fans and is taking steps to return the opportunity to enjoy your favourite races even without an online connection.
It is worth reminding that Ubisoft is in the crosshairs of European human rights activists: the company is accused of collecting data and requiring a constant online connection in single-player games.
