The schedule of Google I/O 2025 conference includes a session dedicated to Android XR. Its description states that the public launch of the platform will take place "later this year".

Here's What We Know

This may mean that Samsung's long-awaited XR headset will be released in 2025 despite rumours of a possible delay until 2026.

Although the exact date, price, and specifications of the device are still unknown, the mention of the Android XR release this year is a signal that Samsung has not changed its plans. Earlier, the company confirmed the launch in 2025, but later rumours about a possible postponement appeared. Now Google has actually denied them.

The Android XR session at I/O 2025 will not be dedicated to specific devices but will reveal more technical details. Google will present new Jetpack XR features, including SceneCore and ARCore. Developers will also be shown how to add 3D models, stereoscopic video, and hand tracking to apps.

This is a lot of technical information, but it hints at one thing: Android XR is going to offer users a new level of app interaction. If everything goes according to plan, we may see the first Samsung headset based on this platform this year.

The regular developer conference will take place on 20-21 May 2025 at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, which is located near Google's headquarters.
