CD Projekt Red promises a better Cyberpunk 2077 experience on Nintendo Switch 2 than on PS4 and Xbox One
Despite the scandalous launch of Cyberpunk 2077 on last-gen consoles, CD Projekt Red assures that Nintendo Switch 2 owners will receive a much better version of the game. The developers claim that Nintendo's new hardware allowed them to create a more productive version than was possible on PS4 and Xbox One.
Here's What We Know
As a reminder, at the time of its release, Cyberpunk 2077 faced serious performance issues on PS4 and Xbox One, and the Phantom Liberty expansion pack was released only on PS5 and Xbox Series. Now, CD Projekt Red is preparing to release the Ultimate Edition on Switch 2, which includes both the main game and the expansion pack. CD Projekt Red engineer Tim Green told Game File about the game's optimisation for the new console.
According to him, the developers are planning to achieve 1080p resolution in full-screen mode and in portable mode with a quality preset. In portable performance mode, the target resolution is 720p. Green also added that the Switch 2 has more power when connected to a dock, but even in portable mode, the game will use Nvidia's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology.
Comparing the Switch 2 version with the problematic releases on Xbox One and PS4, Tim Green noted that Cyberpunk 2077 has received a huge number of updates and improvements since its release. When developing the Ultimate Edition for Nintendo Switch 2, the studio relied on this "solid base".
"Of course, the development was not without its challenges, just like any other development process, but we carefully selected compromises so as not to compromise the original vision of the game," the engineer assured. "We didn't have to fight for every megabyte of memory, and the speed of the storage device helped us solve early problems with streaming. This allowed us to focus on improving other aspects, and we are very pleased with the result."
Game File clarified that the latter comment referred to such issues on PS4 and Xbox One as late texture loading.
Earlier, DLSS support for Nintendo Switch 2 was officially announced, and CD Projekt Red said that Cyberpunk 2077 would be the first confirmed game for this console to use this technology. According to the studio, the Switch 2 version will use a special version of DLSS optimised for the console's hardware and tensor cores. DLSS will be used in all four modes of operation: both docked and handheld, as well as in variants with different prioritisation of quality and performance. So, it looks like players on Nintendo Switch 2 will be able to enjoy Cyberpunk 2077 without the problems that befell owners of the previous generation consoles at release.
