The end of an era: LG to end smartphone support in June 2025
LG will officially end support for its smartphones on 30 June 2025. After exiting the mobile business in 2021, the company continued to provide updates for current models for several years, such as the LG Wing, its latest flagship released in October 2020.
Here's What We Know
After leaving the market, LG focused on electric vehicles and sold some of its patents to other brands, including Oppo. Despite the closure of its mobile division, the company promised to support updates to Android 12 and released critical security patches for some models.
However, LG will soon close all update-related services. In particular, we are talking about the FOTA mobile update centre, LG Bridge and online servers. The company announced this on its official forum, thanking users for their support over the years.
The closure of the update infrastructure is unlikely to affect many users, as most have long since switched to other brands. However, this step means the end of the LG smartphone story. And who knows - perhaps in the future, some of the brand's models will become collector's items.
LG Electronics has recently announced that it is exiting the electric vehicle charging station business. The HiEV Charger subsidiary will be liquidated, and its employees will be employed in other LG Electronics divisions. However, the company will continue to fulfil its obligations to service the stations, according to existing contracts.
