And again, rumours: All iPhone 17 models could get 12GB of RAM
According to the information shared by a well-known insider Digital Chat Station on the Chinese platform Weibo, all iPhone 17 models will receive 12 GB of RAM to support Apple Intelligence.
Here's What We Know
These statements come a few days after analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that the iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max will also have 12 GB of RAM. In addition, Kuo noted that even the base model of the iPhone 17 could get 12GB of RAM, but it would depend on overcoming supply chain issues.
According to him, the final decision on the amount of memory in the regular iPhone 17 will be made by May. However, even if the base model remains with 8GB of RAM, Kuo predicts that all models of the upcoming iPhone 18 will have 12GB of storage.
Currently, all iPhone 16 models are equipped with 8GB of RAM, so the move to 12GB will be a significant improvement. More RAM will allow running larger and more complex AI models, reducing dependence on cloud services. In addition, the increased memory will improve multitasking, allowing AI to run in the background without slowing down active applications.
It is expected that the iPhone 17 line will be presented traditionally in September this year.
Apple is completing testing of the iPhone 17 before mass production. The EVT stage involves testing iPhone 17 prototypes to verify the correct operation of the hardware. Insiders report that the company seems to have abandoned the anti-reflective coating for the iPhone 17 Pro.
