Samsung may move production from Vietnam to India due to US tariffs
Samsung has confirmed that it is indeed considering moving some of its production to other countries to avoid the impact of new US tariffs. The company announced this during its financial report for the first quarter of 2025.
Here's What We Know
The topic of duties and trade was one of the main topics during the company's event.
Due to the significant tariffs on products imported from East Asian countries, Samsung is considering moving its mobile device production from Vietnam to India, where the US import tariff is 26%, compared to 46% in Vietnam. This will allow the company to reduce customs duties if trade agreements between the governments do not change the current conditions.
It is worth reminding that Vietnam is the main production site for Samsung's mobile devices, including smartphones exported to the US. However, with a 10% basic global tariff, the company is forced to look for ways to adapt to the new conditions.
According to reports, the company is already taking steps to maintain profitability, in particular by increasing sales of its flagship phone models. At the same time, Samsung continues to work on expanding its range of premium products in the video display and home appliances segments.
The tariffs have been suspended for 90 days, allowing time to conclude trade agreements. The situation remains uncertain, which is not ideal for business. Samsung is closely monitoring the developments and is ready to take the necessary measures if necessary.
