Apple is preparing to introduce a new iPhone 17 Air model in September. According to AppleTrack, the new product will be the thinnest iPhone in the company's history - only 5.5 mm thick (excluding the camera), compared to 8.25 mm in the iPhone 16 Pro.

Here's What We Know

To achieve this result, Apple had to change the internal layout of the device. The most noticeable feature is the unusual placement of the USB-C port. Now it is shifted closer to the back of the case, which is probably due to the new location of the display components.

The speakers have also undergone changes - instead of the usual five holes on both sides, there are only two left. This indicates an active saving of space inside: there is not enough space for the battery, processor, speakers, and display in such a thin body.

Another change is that there is only one rear camera, which will also help to maintain compactness. In addition, Apple will completely abandon the physical SIM card slot, making eSIM support a global standard.

An important innovation will be the new C1 chip, Apple's own design that debuted in the iPhone 16e. Thanks to its high energy efficiency, the chip will help to preserve battery life even in an ultra-thin form factor.

The iPhone 17 Air is expected to have a 6.6-inch display and battery life on par with current models.
