Evil Dead: The Game goes into the shadows: co-op horror suddenly disappears from all digital stores
Like a curse, the multiplayer horror game Evil Dead: The Game, which was released only three years ago and two years later came to Steam after a year of exclusivity in the Epic Games Store, suddenly disappears from digital stores. The reasons for this decision remain unknown.
Here's What We Know
The first alarms were raised by players who noticed the disappearance of Evil Dead: The Game from the Epic Games Store and PlayStation Store. At first, it seemed like a mistake or a temporary glitch, but a message on Steam confirmed the worst fears: the game was being deliberately removed from all platforms.
"We can confirm that we have begun the process of removing the game from digital stores," wrote publisher Saber Interactive, "Everyone who purchased the game will be able to continue playing it as we plan to keep the servers up and running for everyone. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our community, those who have been with us since the beginning and those who have joined recently. We appreciate all of your support."
And that was it. Saber Interactive did not provide any explanation for the removal and declined to comment further.
One of the most likely reasons for such a step may be the expiration of intellectual property rights or some significant part of them. Three years is a surprisingly short period of time for such situations, but the expiration of licences is a fairly common reason for removing games from sale. For example, Forza Horizon 4 disappeared from digital stores in December 2024 due to the expiration of licences.
