Flappy Bird is back from the dead: the cult game is back with us, but exclusively for Android in the Epic Games Store
Ten years have passed since the hit game Flappy Bird disappeared from digital shelves, but the bird is back! This time, the legendary game is back as an Epic Games Store exclusive on Android, developed by a new team called the Flappy Bird Foundation.
Here's What We Know
Flappy Bird Foundation is headed by designer Michael Roberts. After the announcement of the game's revival last year, attentive fans found out that Roberts also heads 1208 Productions, a crypto firm that bills itself as a "Web3 pioneer". According to its website, 1208 Productions is also behind GLP, "one of the largest Web3 game publishing platforms".
However, in announcing the upcoming release of the game, the development team strongly emphasised that the new Flappy Bird will "never" have Web3 elements and will be fully supported by in-game advertising and other traditional monetisation methods. The Flappy Bird Foundation also plans to release future "web and desktop" versions of the game. So far, only the Android version has been announced, and plans for an iOS release have not yet been disclosed.
It is worth noting that the original creator of Flappy Bird, Dong Nguyen, confirmed last year that he was not involved in the current re-release of the game. The original Flappy Bird was released on iOS in May 2013, but its popularity unexpectedly soared in January 2014, making it the most downloaded app on the App Store and bringing Nguyen tens of thousands of dollars in advertising revenue every day. The game was subsequently removed from the App Store, and in its original form, it was unavailable for more than a decade. Now, fans can once again try their hand at controlling the bird, but for now, only on Android via the Epic Games Store.
