According to Variety, Guy Ritchie, known for his signature style of crime comedy, will direct the sequel to Amazon MGM's remake of Road House, due out in 2024. In the sequel, Jake Gyllenhaal will once again play former UFC fighter Elwood Dalton, who has become a club security guard.

Here's What We Know

Information about the sequel starring Gyllenhaal appeared back in May last year, shortly after the remake's release in March 2024. The Road House garnered more than 50 million views in its first two weekends on Prime Video, becoming the most-watched debut of an Amazon MGM Studios film in the world at the time.

The Road House 2024 was directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow, The Hangover), but after criticism of the decision to stream the film, his return for a sequel seemed unlikely. At the time, Lyman said that the film was made for theatrical release, and all the crew members received their fees based on that. However, after Amazon's decision to release the film on streaming, neither he, nor Gyllenhaal, nor producer Joel Silver received any additional compensation, which the director considered unfair. Nevertheless, according to Gyllenhaal, Amazon was clear from the very beginning about the film's streaming destiny.

Road House 2 will be the third collaboration between Ritchie and Gyllenhaal and their second project for Amazon MGM after the warmly received 2023 war film The Covenant. They have also teamed up for the upcoming action film In the Grey, which will also star Henry Cavill, but the release date for this film is still unknown.

Details of the plot of The Road House 2 are currently being kept under wraps, but the script will be written by Will Beall (Gangster Squad, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F).
