French triumph on the world stage: Macron celebrates the success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, calling the authors a shining example of French courage and creativity
The success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 exceeded everyone's expectations so much that French President Emmanuel Macron could not even pass by the game.
Here's What We Know
Macron publicly praised the French studio Sandfall Interactive for its amazing success with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
"One million copies sold and one of the highest rated games in history today: and yes, it's French!" Macron wrote on Instagram. "Congratulations to Sandfall Interactive and all the creators of Expedition 33. You are a shining example of French courage and creativity."
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was indeed a hit with critics and players alike, with the number of simultaneous players on Steam hovering around 100,000 for a week after release, and an overall score of 92% on Metacritic - a figure that many developers can only dream of. The game passed the one million copies sold mark just three days after its release.
And this is not the first time Macron has done so: just a few days before his post about Clair Obscur, he congratulated French esports organisation Team Vitality after its Counter-Strike team won the ESL Grand Slam at the Intel Extreme Masters Melbourne 2025 tournament, a victory that he said "made our colours shine".
