Samsung has officially launched The Premiere 5 in the Korean market, an ultra-short throw projector that can not only project images up to 100 inches diagonally, but also turn surfaces into touchscreens. It falls in between the affordable portable projector The Freestyle and the top home theatre projectors The Premiere 7/9, but has triple laser technology (like The Premiere 9), although it achieves a brightness level of 560 ISO Lumen (Premiere 7/9, respectively, 2500/3450 ISO Lumen).

The price is 1.99 million won, or approximately 1350 euros. And although the device already looks futuristic, the real magic is in the optional stand with an infrared camera and laser, which allows you to use, for example, a table as a giant touch screen. You connect your smartphone, display the image, and control it with your finger right on the surface.

What The Premiere 5 can do:

  • Triple Laser + Ultra Short Throw - 100-inch image distance of just 43cm
  • Resolution: 1920×1080, 560 lumens brightness
  • Image size: 40 to 100 inches
  • Interfaces: 2×HDMI (micro), 1×USB-C, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.2, eARC
  • Dimensions: 137×201×139 mm, weight - 2.3 kg
  • Sound: 10 W, Dolby Atmos, 2-channel system, 360° support
  • HDR: Quantum HDR, HDR10+, Vision Booster, AI image enhancement
  • Smart features: Tizen, AirPlay, Samsung Health, SmartThings, Bixby, browser, Mirroring
  • Game features: ALLM, Game Motion Plus, Surround, Game Hub, Super Ultra Wide Game View
  • Power supply: 100 W, standby - 0.5 W
  • Laser lifetime: up to 20,000 hours

To use the interactive projection function on walls, tables, or even ceilings, you need a separate stand with an IR camera and laser module. It allows you to recognise gestures and touches, turning any surface into a real interactive display.

For now, availability is limited to South Korea, but given its functionality, it's one of the most interesting projectors of the year, combining the functions of a portable projector, interactive control, and home theatre.
