Eagle-eyed fans have noticed a subtle but rather symbolic change in the official PlayStation Productions splash screen, which has strangely lost one of their favourite characters. Over the past year, Sony has been quietly removing Sackboy from LittleBigPlanet from its intro screensaver, sparking a wave of speculation that the iconic franchise could be finally consigned to the shelf of history.

Here's What We Know

The first to notice the disturbing change were attentive viewers watching the Until Dawn film adaptation. According to a Twitter user realradec, the new version of the PlayStation Productions Sackboy screensaver no longer features the character.

As a reminder, Little Big Planet has been removed from digital stores, the series' servers have been shut down, and developer Media Molecule narrowly avoided closing the studio. Although the spin-off Sackboy: A Big Adventure spin-off is still alive, it hasn't received wide recognition.

With Astro Bot effectively becoming the new PlayStation mascot, fans speculate that Sony is gradually abandoning Sackboy and LittleBigPlanet, classifying the latter as an outdated IP that the company no longer plans to return to, just like the Killzone and Resistance series, as well as many others. Only time will tell if Sackboy is really headed for oblivion, but the disappearance of the beloved character from the official splash screen looks like a wake-up call for LittleBigPlanet's loyal fans.
