It's been a month since the release of adventure action game South of Midnight. The game received high marks from critics, but it seemed to be unnoticed by the general public on the background of bigger releases.

However, the adventurer in the setting of the folklore of the American South managed to attract an impressive audience, as reported by the developers.

Here's What We Know

The head of Compulsion Games studio Guillaume Provost said that for a month with South of Midnight got acquainted with more than 1 million players.

This figure does not reflect the real number of sold copies, because South of Midnight is available in Xbox Game Pass from the first day, but it is a good indicator of interest to the novelty.

Guillaume Provost believes that it is the unusual setting, which has not previously been widely reflected in video games, allowed South of Midnight to interest players.

The specific region is rather poorly represented on the video game market. Kentucky Route Zero is a good example, and you saw it displayed in Red Dead Redemption. But no one has really delved into the mythology of the region and looked at what makes it iconic.

Recall, South of Midnight is a dynamic action game from the authors of the conceptual dystopia We Happy Few, the action of which is set in an alternative rural area of the south of the United States, where local folklore is combined with magic and fantasy monsters.

The game has unusual locations and memorable enemies. The main character Hazel has several supernatural abilities that allow her to feel echoes of the past and use magic. On her journey, the girl encounters bizarre monsters and also meets interesting characters.

The developers tried to enrich South of Midnight with an exciting plot and a dynamic combat system, and thanks to this every boss fight becomes a worthy challenge, but without excessive high complexity.

South of Midnight is available on PC and Xbox Series.
