Indie publisher Devolver Digital is not backing down from its intentions and plans to release its game on the day of GTA VI release

While most publishers are panicking and avoiding competition with Grand Theft Auto 6, Devolver Digital has decided to go all-in. The well-known indie publisher has officially confirmed this: On 26 May 2026, the day of GTA 6 release, gamers will have another high-profile release.

After Rockstar Games announced the postponement of GTA 6 to May 2026, Devolver Digital not only did not back down but also reiterated its plans. The company left an ironic message on social media: "You cannot escape us. Then 26 May 2026". This is not the first such gesture - back in March, Devolver promised to release the game on the same day and time as GTA 6, regardless of the date.

What kind of game Devolver Digital is preparing remains a mystery. The publisher is known for its extraordinary promotional campaigns and hits such as Cult of the Lamb, Death's Door, The Talos Principle, Gris, and The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood.

Choosing such a date is a bold move, as most games try to avoid direct competition with a giant like GTA 6. Nevertheless, Devolver Digital sees this as a chance to repeat the "Doom Crossing" effect, when Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Doom Eternal came out on the same day and only increased interest in both releases.

It is interesting that if Rockstar postpones GTA 6 again, Devolver may also shift the date, remaining true to the promise. In any case, the indie publisher has already attracted the attention of both gamers and the media.
