Greece denies information about the transfer of Patriot system to Ukraine
The Greek government has denied media reports that it plans to transfer a US Patriot air defence system to Ukraine.
Here's What We Know
Greek officials in a commentary to Reuters clearly stated that the supply of Patriot systems to Ukraine from Greece is not being considered. Thus, Athens denied the publication of The New York Times, which referred to the possible transfer of another system to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
This position is in line with Athens' consistent policy since 2022. Greece has repeatedly refused to transfer both Soviet and NATO air defence systems to Ukraine, citing its own defence security.

Currently, the Greek Army has Tor and Wasp anti-aircraft missile systems (19 units of the Wasp-AC version and another 20 units of the Wasp-ACM version). The Air Force also has several divisions of S-300PMU systems1.
Greece rejected the issue of transferring Soviet air defence systems to Ukraine back in 2022, citing, among other things, licensing restrictions imposed by Russia. According to the signed end-user agreement, Greece has no right to export these systems without Moscow's approval.
It was recently reported that Ukraine will receive the Israeli Patriot, which has already been decommissioned. The US is likely to upgrade it and hand it over to the Ukrainian Defence Forces.
