Demand may outstrip supply: TSMC fears a shortage of 2nm chips due to huge interest from Apple, NVIDIA and AMD
The world's leading chipmaker TSMC will soon launch production of semiconductors on the 2nm process, which, thanks to GAAFET nanosheet transistors, will be 10-15% more productive than on the 3nm process.
IT giants are so interested in such chips that TSMC is not sure it will be able to meet the demand.
Here's What We Know
According to the Ctee portal, major companies such as Apple, NVIDIA and AMD want to buy so many chips that TSMC analysts predict a supply shortage at the start of production.
Apple is expected to use the 2nm process to produce the iPhone 18, NVIDIA for its Vera Rubin architecture, and AMD has announced the use of such chips in its Zen 6 Venice processors.
TSMC plans to produce 50,000 2nm chips in 2025 and triple the volume by 2027, for which it will expand production in Taiwan and launch a plant in Arizona by 2028.
