A cooperative triumph: Split Fiction has sold 4 million copies and remains one of the best games of 2025
Split Fiction, a co-operative action game created by Hazelight, became a huge success within a few months of its release: sales exceeded 4 million copies, and critics and players say that it is one of the best games of 2025 so far. The developers themselves told us about this breakthrough, and they do not hide their delight in the support of fans.
Here's What We Know
Split Fiction was released on 6 March 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. The game instantly conquered players, selling a million copies in the first 48 hours and two million in a week. According to EA, this is one of the most successful launches for Hazelight, the studio known for its hit It Takes Two.
The story centres on two writers, Mio and Zoe, who find themselves trapped in their own works and forced to overcome various challenges together as they travel between fantasy worlds. The game is entirely based on co-op, where players have to interact closely using the unique abilities of the characters.
Critics have praised Split Fiction for its original gameplay, variety of mechanics, and exciting atmosphere. Metacritic gave the game 91 points out of 100, making it one of the leaders among the releases of 2025, ahead of even such projects as Monster Hunter Wilds and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
A special feature of the game is the ability to play for free with a friend through the Friend's Pass system - only one copy of the game is required to play, which significantly expands the audience.
The developers do not hide their joy of success: "4 MILLION SOLD! We are amazed and very grateful to everyone who supported Split Fiction. Watching you enjoy the game and characters inspires us to keep creating," Hazelight shared on social media.
