The author of the original GTA supported the postponement of Grand Theft Auto 6, because it is better to postpone the release than to release a raw product
After the release of the second trailer for GTA 6 and the news of the release postponement to May 2026, one of the founders of the series, Mike Daly, publicly praised Rockstar for the courage not to chase instant profit and give the game time to be improved.
Here's What We Know
On his Bluesky page, Mike Daly, who was at the origins of GTA, noted that Rockstar could have released GTA 6 even in an "unfinished" state and the game would still have become a hit. However, he called the decision to postpone the release for additional polish "surprising" and cited the failed launch of Frontier as an example: Elite II, when haste and greed led to numerous bugs and disappointment of fans.
Daly particularly noted that the new GTA 6 trailer shows significant progress: the world looks even more realistic, and the animations of the characters - both main and secondary - have become much more natural compared to the first showing of the game. This, in his opinion, proves once again that the additional development time is being used to good effect.
Rockstar did not officially name specific reasons for the postponement, but according to insiders, the studio wants to avoid overloading the team and crunching, and also wants to exceed the expectations of fans by releasing the highest quality product. Despite the drop in Take-Two shares after the announcement, most players and analysts supported this strategy: it is better to wait than to get an unfinished game.
GTA 6 will now officially release on 26 May 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PC version is expected later, but its release date has not yet been announced.
As a reminder, the second GTA 6 trailer sets new records: more than 45 million views in 12 hours and a frenzy on the Internet.
